Better For Life: Bringing Health And Wellness To Older People Through A Multidisciplinary Approach Using Funded Options

|

04/11/2021

When planning a health and wellness exercise facility, careful consideration of the setting and staffing is essential to maximize health benefits. These benefits include improved quality of life through enhanced mobility, increased physical activity, better mental health, and stronger cognitive function.

One of the key challenges in allied health service delivery is access to funding, which can slow down implementation. With numerous Federal and State government-funded programs available, opportunities for cost savings are often overlooked. However, when accessed effectively, these funding programs can place clients on the right health pathway—benefiting both the client and the clinician.

A successful Active Ageing model encompasses various elements, including a well-defined concept, strategic staffing, gym design, and a strong multidisciplinary allied health presence. A standout example of effective health and wellness delivery in both community and residential care settings is Southern Cross Care (SA, NT & VIC) Inc. In the 2020-2021 financial year, SCC provided 108,000 hours of health and wellness services to 3,000 clients (The Source, September 2021).

We are excited to welcome two expert speakers from SCC in our upcoming webinar:

  • Nick Petch, Physiotherapist, will discuss the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to wellness.
  • Dr. Tim Henwood, Group Manager for Community Wellness & Lifestyle, will explore the range of available funding options.
