Abilities Centre & HUR Launch the Largest Accessible Equipment Installation

HUR is proud to announce a landmark partnership with Abilities Centre in Whitby, Ontario, to launch the world’s largest accessible equipment installation of HUR technology, set to open in Fall 2025.

Spanning approximately 12,080 m², the Centre was designed with safety and accessibility at its core, ensuring that every visitor can experience its programs, services, and spaces without barriers.

“This collaboration goes beyond equipment—it represents a shared commitment to advancing inclusive, research-driven fitness and rehabilitation,” said Mats Manderbacka, Founder & Chair of HUR Finland. “Working closely with Abilities Centre and Rockmount, HUR’s distributor in Canada, we are bringing cutting-edge technology and data-driven solutions to a diverse community of users, from athletes to individuals seeking accessible wellness.”

Abilities Centre’s new HUR Training Area aligns perfectly with HUR’s mission to empower people of all ages and abilities through innovative, joint-friendly strength training equipment. HUR smart pneumatic resistance technology offers precise, real-time measurement and adjustment, helping users improve strength, endurance, balance, and agility while reducing injury risks.

Earlier this year, HUR, together with Rockmount, welcomed representatives from Abilities Centre to Finland for an immersive visit. This hands-on experience showcased the global impact of HUR technology in enhancing health, wellness, and athletic performance, reinforcing a shared vision for inclusive fitness.

David Smith, Founder of Rockmount Medical Solutions, emphasized the community’s positive response to the technology: “The feedback on HUR equipment at Abilities Centre has been overwhelmingly positive. This partnership highlights how innovative fitness solutions can truly transform lives.”

As the largest accessible HUR installation worldwide, this project exemplifies HUR’s dedication to inclusive, evidence-based fitness innovation. Together with Abilities Centre and Rockmount, we are setting a new standard for how technology and research can come together to create accessible, empowering fitness environments.

Strength Training for all abilities – wheelchair accessible exercise equipment

HUR wheelchair accessible exercise equipment utilizes Pneumatic (air resistance) technology that follows the natural movement of the muscle, is easy on joints and allows for optimal muscle loading equal to the fitness and ability level of each unique user.

HUR’s Easy Access range is designed to meet the specific needs of wheelchair users and those with mobility and sensory impairments. Through easy to roll out seats, the strength training equipment has been designed to enable the integration of disabled people into mainstream facilities so the machines are equally suitable for regular exercisers eliminating the need for two types of equipment – truly inclusive.
