Visiting Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and HyMy Village: A Japanese Delegation’s Experience
A delegation from Japan, representing InterReha — a company specializing in advanced rehabilitation technologies and healthcare solutions for over 30 years — recently visited Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki. InterReha has introduced innovative rehabilitation programs, including cardiac rehabilitation and the CGT (Comprehensive Geriatric Training) concept, to hospitals and clinics both in Japan and internationally.
During the visit, Inari Heimo, Senior Lecturer at the School of Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy, introduced the delegation to the HUR SmartGym at Metropolia and explained how it benefits both student learning and clinical practice.

HyMy Village – A Living Lab for Future Health Professionals
HyMy Village (“Hyvinvointia Myllypurosta” → “Well-being from Myllypuro”) is a well-being and health learning environment where students from nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dental hygiene, social services, and other fields provide real services to clients under professional supervision.
Purpose and Role of HyMy Village
- Practical Learning for Students – Hands-on experience with real clients enhances professional skills beyond simulations.
- Services for the Community – Offers affordable or complementary services, such as adult health clinics, physiotherapy, dental care, rehabilitation, nursing consultations, osteopathy, optometry, elderly/family support, walking/running analysis, and low-threshold social and healthcare counseling.
- Innovation and Development – Functions as a living lab where new service concepts and well-being solutions are piloted, tested, and co-created with industry and public partners.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration – Students and professionals from different fields work together, reflecting real-life teamwork in healthcare.
HUR SmartGym and Clinical Practice
The HUR SmartGym at HyMy Village is used by students and staff for training and rehabilitation exercises. Adjacent to the gym, a functioning clinic serves patients, ensuring that student practice is integrated with genuine healthcare delivery.
All student-led plans and treatments are supervised and approved by qualified professionals, ensuring safety and high-quality care.
